Solder? There are header pins already in place to attach a serial breakout to.

I thought you were saying it was forever stuck in this mode so that would be worth investigating, but now the story is different  Huh 
Momentary voltage drops are invariably the reason why the AB gets stuck in a reboot loop, and they usually devolve to a suspect connection at one of the 3 connectors, being the JST plug, OEM controller plug, or the main ECU plug.

It is the instantaneous increase in current draw that causes the voltage drop,  especially when the wifi radio is enabled.
Ohm's law states that you will get a voltage drop across any marginal contact points, and if that goes under the brownout or voltage supervisor thresholds the unit will be rebooted.
